Create Patient CDs for Medical Image Files Automatically and in One Step

Primera and IMAGE Information Systems introduce new complete DICOM solution

Wiesbaden, Germany - 3 July 2018 – DTM Medical jointly presents with Primera Technology, a leading manufacturer of professional duplication and printing equipment for optical media, and IMAGE Information Systems Europe GmbH, a medical device manufacturer for image processing systems, a new complete solution with which medical images of both DICOM-enabled and non-DICOM-enabled examination devices can be automatically burned to CD/DVD and duplicated in DICOM format. Especially the close cooperation and partnership of both companies bring a clear added value in the (further) development and support of the solution.

The complete system, consisting of the iQ-ROBOT medical device software and one or more Primera Disc Publisher robots, is oriented towards the many wishes of independent imaging centres or those connected to hospitals for a convenient, easy-to-use and fail-safe solution.

iQ-ROBOT was developed for the cost-effective and high-quality distribution of digital imaging studies on portable optical media (DVD-R or Blu-ray Discs). “For imaging centres and hospitals, regardless of size and data volume, iQ-ROBOT is ideally suited for fully automated media creation including burning and labelling,” explains Dr. Arpad Bischof, Managing Director of IMAGE Information Systems.

To produce many CDs/DVDs quickly, several Primera robots are connected to a server for load balancing. For high availability systems, multiple iQ-ROBOT servers can control several Primera Disc Publishers simultaneously. This guarantees 100% system availability. iQ-ROBOT even sends e-mails to the IT hotline before the ink cartridge is empty or in case of technical errors. The PREMIUM version automatically creates cost-effective optical backups of the complete PACS database in any size on request.

The system combines the comprehensive know-how of IMAGE Information Systems in radiology with the reliable and robust Disc Publisher models from Primera to form a complete solution unique in today’s medical image processing.

Optical media created with iQ-ROBOT are compatible with the IHE PDI and DICOM CD regulations of the German Radiological Society (Deutsche Röntgengesellschaft), so that every recipient of the image disc can easily read the data into any image archiving system. Depending on the Primera Disc Publisher, the robot system can hold 20 (Disc Publisher SE-3) to 100 (DP-4200 Disc Publisher series) blank media. These are available to the robot system for access without further operating steps. Using the robotics integrated in the Disc Publisher devices, patient CDs can be created directly where they are needed, without extra routes.

In addition to burning the data, the Disc Publisher prints onto each disc patient name, date and practice name to prevent confusion. Only one colour cartridge with integrated print head is used for printing. This high-yield tri-colour cartridge simplifies operation and on-going maintenance, eliminates problems caused by fixed print heads and minimises downtimes during ink replacement. At the same time, the costs and expenses for maintenance and storage of consumables are kept low. Finished discs are dispensed automatically to an output bin for easy access without having to manually open the front cover of the Disc Publisher every time.
